Office Depot is committed to recycling and creating markets for recycled products. Below are a few examples of our recycling efforts:

Capturing Wastes for Recycling

Office Depot has an extensive waste recycling program at our Corporate Headquarters that targets more than 80% of our waste stream. This program includes paper, plastic bottles and cans, ink and toner cartridges, cell phones, rechargeable batteries and computers. Every ton of paper this program recovers has conserved 17 to 24 trees, and each extra ton of aluminum cans and plastic bottles recycled has conserved more than 2,000 gallons of gasoline.

In hundreds of our stores and facilities, we have installed balers to collect corrugated cardboard for recycling. In 2004 and 2005 alone we recycled over 20,000 tons of cardboard!

Buying Recycled Paper

Office Depot believes in "closing the loop" by ensuring that we not only recycle, but also use high post-consumer recycled paper in our internal operations. We have an internal policy to use our EnviroCopy 35% post-consumer recycled paper in all applicable black and white printing applications.

Through implementation of this initiative we have achieved an average of 29.6% Average Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Content in the paper used at our Corporate Headquarters and 29.3% PCR content in our Design.Print.Ship centers across North America.
