City of Hope

Founded in 1913, City of Hope began with two tents that were built at the base of California's San Gabriel Mountains as a refuge for people stricken with tuberculosis. Today, those two tents have evolved into what are now the City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute. The organization's goal remains the same - to seek out treatments and cures for diseases that take too many lives far too soon. City of Hope is a Comprehensive Cancer Center - the highest accolade given by the National Cancer Institute - and one of the most advanced biomedical research and treatment facilities in the world. This remarkable organization is dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer and other life threatening diseases.

Office Depot, which has supported City of Hope for many years, directly impacts the health of men, women and children by supporting the treatment of City of Hope's patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. City of Hope has made tremendous contributions, but there is much more work to be done. To find out how you can make a difference in the life of someone suffering from cancer, diabetes and other illnesses, visit www.cityofhope.org.

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots

Children make up 19 percent of the United States' population. An estimated 15 million of them live in poverty. Their families often have very little hope of buying toys for the holidays. Office Depot helps to change this sad reality. Through our partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, we make it possible for our associates and our customers alike to put smiles on the faces of children.

During the holiday season, you can get involved by buying the collectible stuffed bear "Teddy B. Caring" in Office Depot retail stores throughout the United States. If you would like to support a Toys for Tots drive in your community, you can get details by visiting the Toys for Tots web site at www.toysfortots.org. You will be able to check your state to see if there is a program in your area.

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America

Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America

No community is immune to drugs and their related problems. The economic burden of substance abuse to the U.S. economy is estimated at a staggering $414 billion annually. Drug, alcohol and tobacco use currently cost schools throughout the country an extra $41 billion per year in truancy, violence, disciplinary programs, school security and other expenses. For the past 15 years, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) has led the fight against substance abuse by fostering the establishment and growth of community coalitions. Today, CADCA's over 5,000 community coalitions are reducing youth drug use and making their communities safe, healthy and drug-free. Coalitions deal with a diverse set of strategies to change community norms, reaching people where they live, work and go to school. CADCA's Drug-Free Kids Campaign is an effort to shine a spotlight on the serious problem of substance abuse and addiction and show how community-based strategies are working to combat these concerns.
